If you only get to watch one quality number, this is a strong candidate, because it is the one the customer experiences directly.
Why it matters
A visit that solves the problem the first time earns its revenue once and never comes back for more. One that does not consumes a second slot, a second drive, and a share of the customer’s confidence. The difference between 85% and 95% first-call resolution is both a margin difference and a retention difference, and it compounds in both.
How you notice it slipping
The number is never calculated, only its shadow — the callback count. Technicians are judged on stops completed, which rewards speed over completeness. Repeat visits are logged as new work, so the signal disappears into the schedule.
What to do
Measure it per service type and look at what the successful visits had that the others did not. The answer is almost always preparation: the right product on the van, the access arranged, enough minutes scheduled to do the job properly. None of those are things a technician can fix while standing at the door.
